Booleewan (boolewan)

Source term: small "bullroarer" board with hole & string

Booleewan / boolewan: the small bullroarer board, "making booming noise when twirled." Milyabil: the long sacred board, the "big one."

Booleewan boomed. For Kokobina, a Nyangumarta man from Warran in the Pilbara, it was the small board with a hole and a string that made a booming noise when twirled. The long sacred board was another thing with another name. The bullroarer came in two sizes: the big one milyabil, the little one boolewan.
