saɸaŋgə

Source term: bullroarer: saɸaŋgə

saɸaŋgə: bullroarer (Yamfinder, Namat, Mibini, Jeff Siegel field data; phonemic transcription)

Namat speakers at Mibini, south of Morehead station in the Trans-Fly of Papua New Guinea, call the bullroarer saɸaŋgə, a name shared with none of the Yam languages around them. The same people name the bamboo flute latu and the drum ndundu. A few miles north, at Daraia, speakers of the closely related Nama call the roarer áki kwèfan, and the Komnzo of Rouku call it ŋofoŋofo.
