Around Sora, in the Ciociaria, nearly every village named the little roarer differently: je mescone in Sora itself, la parruza at Campoli Appennino, zeuarella at Arpino, schiavetta or cucchiarella or lenguetta at Selva. The thing itself stayed constant — a strip of board a palm long and two fingers wide, bored at the tip, tied to a string, and spun fast.
Il rombo a Sora centro vien detto mescone (je mescóne), in contrada Valianito uentaréglie, in contrada Selva ha ben tre nomi schiavétta-cucchiarella-lenguétta … Nel vicino comune di Campoli Appennino viene usato e chiamato la parruza. Ad Arpino si chiama zeuarella (nome dello scarafaggio).
The rombo, in Sora town, is called 'mescone' (je mescone); in the Valianito district 'uentareglie'; in the Selva district it has three names, 'schiavetta-cucchiarella-lenguetta' … In the neighbouring town of Campoli Appennino it is used and called 'la parruza'. At Arpino it is called 'zeuarella' (the name of the beetle).
