je mescone Italian

je mescone (Sora); uentareglie (Valianito); schiavetta, cucchiarella, lenguetta (Selva); je pazzejareglie (Carnello); la parruza (Campoli Appennino); zeuarella (Arpino).

Around Sora, in the Ciociaria, nearly every village named the little roarer differently: je mescone in Sora itself, la parruza at Campoli Appennino, zeuarella at Arpino, schiavetta or cucchiarella or lenguetta at Selva. The thing itself stayed constant — a strip of board a palm long and two fingers wide, bored at the tip, tied to a string, and spun fast.

Object
A rhomboid or rectangle cut from a small board, a palm long and two fingers wide, bored at the tip and tied to a string.
Function
Boys' toy, spun fast on its single string.
