The Brussels instrument museum keeps, among its serious holdings, one planchette ronflante — a 'snoring little board' of plain wood, twenty-one centimetres, with its whirling cord. Nobody wrote down whose hand it came from or what village it hummed over; it stands in the national collection for every Belgian child's roarer that never reached a museum at all.
