zorrumba / zorumba

Source term: zorrumba

zorrumba (also zorumba): imitative; Goicoechea says the toy's noise is the one the word itself expresses.

The zorrumba says its own name. In La Rioja it was a children's toy: a thin slat about a handspan long, tied by one end to a cord and whirled hard around through the air until it gave out a noise, as Cesáreo Goicoechea put it, like the very sound the word makes.

Particulars
