hůkadlo

In the Bohemian Forest the hůkadlo is a plain wooden board on a string. Spun round, it gives a deep, droning hum. Herders used it above all to drive pigs; children played with it, or swung it to frighten. At the Dřevák wood exhibition in Modrava, high on the Vydra, visitors can still try one.
