berra-boi Portuguese

berra-boi = instrument name used by the Morrinhos participant

Antônio Delfino Leite remembered alternating between the berra-boi and a jawbone in his family’s Reza Pr’as Almas near Morrinhos. Every Holy Week, the berra-boi announced the group’s approach along the rural Palmito route.

Às vezes tocava o berra-boi, às vezes tocava a queixada. Todo ano a gente saía.

Sometimes I played the berra-boi, sometimes the jawbone. Every year we went out.
