In Istria the bullroarer belonged above all to the coast and its Venetian-speaking towns; in the countryside inland it was scarcer. But up at Portole — today Oprtalj, on its hill above the Mirna — the rombo was known too. Battaglia had the report from a correspondent in the town, one V. Sichich; no local name survived the telling.
