mondegi
Source term: Schwirrholz; churinga (mondegi)
mondegi: Adam’s name for this engraved West Kimberley bullroarer.
Two human heads share this engraved mondegi, set crown to crown so that neither stands above the other; it is meant to be viewed lying on its side. Four winding forms meet at its centre among angular panels. Leonhard Adam compared the pair with Gagàmaran and Gonbaren, culture heroes of the Karajarri as Karajarri men described them to Father Ernest Worms. A Mayala man made it; its back is finely grooved.
