Its cord ends not in a loop but in a folded scrap of canvas, a grip for the hand. Ennadai was the home of the Ahiarmiut, inland Inuit who lived almost wholly on the barren-ground caribou, far from the sea and its seals. Two years after this blade left the lake, the government moved them off it.","pull_quote":"","pull_quote_translation":"","pull_quote_cite":"","term_gloss":"","cls":"unknown","class_label":"Function not recorded","color":"#6B7884","is_candidate":false,"flags":[],"f_jade_complex":false,"f_women_taboo":false,"f_women_special":false,"f_snake":false,"sources":[{"citation":"Wereldmuseum Rotterdam, WM-39471, “Zoemhout,” Kivallirmiut, Ennadai, Nunavut (donated 1955).","url":"https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.11840/1095772"}],"source_citations":"Wereldmuseum Rotterdam, WM-39471, “Zoemhout,” Kivallirmiut, Ennadai, Nunavut (donated 1955).","source_display":"Wereldmuseum Rotterdam, WM-39471, “Zoemhout,” Kivallirmiut, Ennadai, Nunavut (donated 1955).","date_citation_display":"","object_display":"A long, thin wooden blade, 87 × 8 × 0.7 cm, rounded at both ends, with a row of small teeth cut around the far tip; the cord is tied at the other end and finishes in a folded scrap of canvas for a handhold (Wereldmuseum WM-39471).","function_display":"Not recorded.","confidence_display":"medium","attestation_label":"museum specimen","etymology_hedge":"","people_key":"ahiarmiut kivallirmiut","display_name":"Ennadai saw-toothed blade","image":{"full":"assets/objects/hunt_fifty_2026_10_30/naain_009_39.jpg","thumb":"assets/objects/hunt_fifty_2026_10_30/thumbs/naain_009_39.jpg","alt":"A serrated wooden blade attached to a cord and fabric handhold.","credit":"Wereldmuseum, WM-39471","source_page":"https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.11840/1095772","rehosted":true,"representative":false,"caption":"An 87-centimetre saw-tipped blade from Ennadai Lake, with its canvas handhold (WM-39471).","last_modified":"2026-11-03"},"slug":"wm1955-001-ahiarmiut-kivallirmiut-caribou-inuit-of-ennadai-lake"}
