Workmen picking through the haul on deck began to find pieces that people had shaped thousands of years before: buttons, beads, little human figures, and flat pendants pierced at one end. In 1904 Andrew Lang looked at Richard Klebs's natural-size drawings and saw bullroarers among them. One long blade has notches cut along both edges, like the serrated Australian boards Lang knew. Most of the hoard burned or vanished in Königsberg in 1945.","pull_quote":"Eine grosse Rolle unter den Schwarzorter Bernsteinen spielen die Hängestücke, welche an einem Ende einfach, selten mehrfach senkrecht zur Platte durchbohrt sind","pull_quote_translation":"A large part among the Schwarzort ambers is played by the hanging pieces, which are pierced at one end, usually once and rarely several times, through the plate","pull_quote_cite":"Richard Klebs, Der Bernsteinschmuck der Steinzeit (1882), p. 19","term_gloss":"Hängestück (German): a hanging piece, Klebs’s term for a flat amber ornament pierced at one end.","cls":"unknown","class_label":"Function not recorded","color":"#6B7884","is_candidate":false,"flags":[],"f_jade_complex":false,"f_women_taboo":false,"f_women_special":false,"f_snake":false,"f_archaeology":true,"archaeology_kind":"assemblage","date_display":"c. 3000–2000 BC","date_qualification":"Dredged lagoon hoard; regional Late Neolithic horizon; objects not directly dated.","date_basis":"regional_synthesis","date_confidence":"low","date_citation":"klebs1882_bernsteinschmuck_lang1904; regional Late Neolithic-Early Bronze Age attribution of the Juodkrantė hoard","sources":[{"citation":"Richard Klebs, Der Bernsteinschmuck der Steinzeit von der Baggerei bei Schwarzort und anderen Lokalitäten Preussens, Beiträge zur Naturkunde Preussens 5 (Königsberg, 1882), pp. 19-22, Taf.
