The official object page says almost nothing else: no material, no thickness, no wear notes, just the classification 'pendant.' The hera class it belongs to is scattered thinly across Early Jōmon Japan and has attracted a century of guesses — hairpin, waist ornament, insignia — none of which sits comfortably on a hand-length polished blade. At twelve centimetres Yoshimine's is among the largest, well into the size range of working bullroarers.","pull_quote":"出土品の中には、珍しい箆状垂飾もあります。","pull_quote_translation":"Among the excavated finds is also a rare hera-shaped pendant.","pull_quote_cite":"Maibun Toyama, vol. 158 (2022), on the Yoshimine site","term_gloss":"箆状垂飾 (hera-jō suishoku): 'spatula-shaped pendant'","cls":"unknown","class_label":"Function not recorded","color":"#6B7884","is_candidate":true,"flags":[],"f_jade_complex":true,"f_women_taboo":false,"f_women_special":false,"f_snake":false,"f_archaeology":true,"archaeology_kind":"object","date_display":"c. 5050–3520 BC","date_qualification":"Early Jōmon phase; object not directly dated.","date_basis":"cultural_phase","date_confidence":"medium","date_citation":"yoshimine_toyama_official, Toyama official virtual museum object page; length 12.0 cm","sources":[{"citation":"Toyama Prefectural Center for Archaeological Operations, Maibun Toyama 158 (2022); Toyama Prefecture virtual museum, 吉峰遺跡 垂飾","url":"https://www.pref.toyama.jp/3041/miryokukankou/bunka/bunkazai/maibun/virtual/320.html","archive":"https://web.archive.org/web/20261013011052/https://www.pref.toyama.jp/3041/miryokukankou/bunka/bunkazai/maibun/virtual/320.html"}],"source_citations":"Toyama Prefectural Center for Archaeological Operations, Maibun Toyama 158 (2022); Toyama Prefecture virtual museum, 吉峰遺跡 垂飾","source_display":"Toyama Prefectural Center for Archaeological Operations, Maibun Toyama 158 (2022); Toyama Prefecture virtual museum, 吉峰遺跡 垂飾","date_citation_display":"Toyama official virtual museum object page; length 12.0 cm","object_display":"A spatula-shaped (hera) pendant of polished stone, 12.0 cm long and 3.0 cm at its widest, pierced once at the end.","function_display":"Published as a rare hera-shaped (spatula) pendant from the 1973–74 rescue excavation; the pendant label is classificatory rather than argued, and the large end-holed form is that of a whirled blade.","confidence_display":"low to medium","attestation_label":"archaeological find","etymology_hedge":"","people_key":"yoshimine site","display_name":"Yoshimine hera-shaped pendant","image":{"full":"assets/objects/jade_candidates/local_review/ea-yoshimine-001-museum-photo.jpg","thumb":"assets/objects/jade_candidates/local_review/thumbs/ea-yoshimine-001-museum-photo_thumb.jpg","credit":"","license":"","source_page":"https://www.pref.toyama.jp/3041/miryokukankou/bunka/bunkazai/maibun/virtual/320.html","rehosted":true,"representative":false,"caption":"Yoshimine hera-shaped pendant (箆状垂飾) — polished stone, twelve centimetres, pierced once at the end"},"slug":"ea-yoshimine-001-yoshimine-site"}
