It comes from the lower discard area of a jade-working site at Itoigawa — two hundred metres from the modern shoreline of the coast that supplied all of Jōmon Japan's jadeite — amid raw stone, flakes, and unfinished tremolite products. Broken at both ends, it keeps just enough to be counted a pendant — its upper hole — and was thrown away in the very place such objects were made for export. The value here is the vantage: whatever the finished form was for, this is where the form was made.","pull_quote":"","pull_quote_translation":"","pull_quote_cite":"","term_gloss":"","cls":"unknown","class_label":"Function not recorded","color":"#6B7884","is_candidate":true,"flags":[],"f_jade_complex":true,"f_women_taboo":false,"f_women_special":false,"f_snake":false,"f_archaeology":true,"archaeology_kind":"object","date_display":"c. 3520–2470 BC","date_qualification":"Middle Jōmon discard layer; object not directly dated.","date_basis":"cultural_phase","date_confidence":"medium","date_citation":"kobayashi_2021_chiba_non_jade_pendants, Kobayashi 2021 p. 18, Fig. 4 no. 4","sources":[{"citation":"Kobayashi Kiyotaka, Chiba Prefectural Foundation for Cultural Properties article (2021), p. 18 and fig. 4 no. 4","url":"https://www.echiba.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/%E7%B8%84%E6%96%87%E6%99%82%E4%BB%A3%E4%B8%AD%E6%9C%9F%E3%81%AB%E3%81%8A%E3%81%91%E3%82%8B%E7%BF%A1%E7%BF%A0%E4%BB%A5%E5%A4%96%E3%81%AE%E7%9F%B3%E6%9D%90%E3%82%92%E7%B4%A0%E6%9D%90%E3%81%A8%E3%81%99%E3%82%8B%E5%9E%82%E9%A3%BE%E3%81%AE%E5%AD%98%E5%9C%A8.pdf","archive":"https://web.archive.org/web/20230418113212/https://www.echiba.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/%E7%B8%84%E6%96%87%E6%99%82%E4%BB%A3%E4%B8%AD%E6%9C%9F%E3%81%AB%E3%81%8A%E3%81%91%E3%82%8B%E7%BF%A1%E7%BF%A0%E4%BB%A5%E5%A4%96%E3%81%AE%E7%9F%B3%E6%9D%90%E3%82%92%E7%B4%A0%E6%9D%90%E3%81%A8%E3%81%99%E3%82%8B%E5%9E%82%E9%A3%BE%E3%81%AE%E5%AD%98%E5%9C%A8.pdf"}],"source_citations":"Kobayashi Kiyotaka, Chiba Prefectural Foundation for Cultural Properties article (2021), p. 18 and fig. 4 no. 4","source_display":"Kobayashi Kiyotaka, Chiba Prefectural Foundation for Cultural Properties article (2021), p. 18 and fig. 4 no. 4","date_citation_display":"Kobayashi 2021 p. 18, Fig. 4 no. 4","object_display":"A flat stone slab, broken top and bottom, with a hole surviving at its upper edge.","function_display":"Published as a pendant, on the strength of its upper hole.","confidence_display":"low","attestation_label":"archaeological find","etymology_hedge":"","people_key":"rokkanda minami","display_name":"Rokutanda Minami jade-workshop pendant","image":{"full":"assets/objects/jade_candidates/local_review/ea-rokutanda-minami-4-fig4.png","thumb":"assets/objects/jade_candidates/local_review/thumbs/ea-rokutanda-minami-4-fig4_thumb.jpg","credit":"","license":"","source_page":"https://www.echiba.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/%E7%B8%84%E6%96%87%E6%99%82%E4%BB%A3%E4%B8%AD%E6%9C%9F%E3%81%AB%E3%81%8A%E3%81%91%E3%82%8B%E7%BF%A1%E7%BF%A0%E4%BB%A5%E5%A4%96%E3%81%AE%E7%9F%B3%E6%9D%90%E3%82%92%E7%B4%A0%E6%9D%90%E3%81%A8%E3%81%99%E3%82%8B%E5%9E%82%E9%A3%BE%E3%81%AE%E5%AD%98%E5%9C%A8.pdf","rehosted":true,"representative":false,"caption":"Rokutanda Minami pendant, broken top and bottom, drawn face-on, from both edges and from above through its hole"},"slug":"ea-rokutanda-minami-4-rokkanda-minami-figure-4-no-4-upper-holed-stone-product"}
