That wear is what invites the bullroarer comparison; the archaeologist who studied the group read it otherwise, as a cord held taut with the blade pressed against the body, marking a waist ornament worn day to day and cut from green stone carried in from afar, probably a personal badge. Alone among the five, the Yokohama piece was never laid in a pit.","pull_quote":"","pull_quote_translation":"","pull_quote_cite":"","term_gloss":"ヘラ状垂飾 (hera-jō suishoku): 'spatula-shaped pendant'","cls":"unknown","class_label":"Function not recorded","color":"#6B7884","is_candidate":true,"flags":[],"f_jade_complex":true,"f_women_taboo":false,"f_women_special":false,"f_snake":false,"f_archaeology":true,"archaeology_kind":"object","date_display":"c. 4050–3050 BC","date_qualification":"","date_basis":"cluster_attribution","date_confidence":"low","date_citation":"kanagawa_2024_jomon_accessories_hera_pendants, Kanagawa 2024 lecture PDF Fig. 2 cluster summary","sources":[{"citation":"Kanagawa Prefecture archaeology lecture (2025), Fig. 2, after Tsubota 2017","url":"https://www.pref.kanagawa.jp/documents/8040/r6kouza-7.pdf","archive":"https://web.archive.org/web/20260212035318/https://www.pref.kanagawa.jp/documents/8040/r6kouza-7.pdf"}],"source_citations":"Kanagawa Prefecture archaeology lecture (2025), Fig. 2, after Tsubota 2017","source_display":"Kanagawa Prefecture archaeology lecture (2025), Fig. 2, after Tsubota 2017","date_citation_display":"Kanagawa 2024 lecture PDF Fig. 2 cluster summary","object_display":"A large serpentinite blade, over 10 cm long, pierced once near the top; around the hole, both faces are worn in a slant of nearly 45 degrees.
